Asymmetry partners with world-class institutions across the UK to create unique opportunities for Greater Chinese-identifying curators and scholars in the form of Fellowships and Scholarships. One of our partner institutions is Chisenhale Gallery in London where our Curatorial Writing Fellowship is hosted.

Chisenhale Gallery’s Director Zoé Whitley speaks about the origins of the gallery, its history in London’s East End, and collaboration with local communities to support and nurture art education and creative well-being at neighbouring primary schools and hospitals. Chisenhale Gallery was founded by artists in a disused brewery warehouse and factory with an experimental vision and the spirit of possibility. Since Chisenhale opened 38 years ago, many international and UK-based artists have staged their first major UK institutional exhibition at the gallery, including Lubaina Himid, Wolfgang Tilmans, Rachel Whiteread, Cornelia Parker, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Shen Yuan and Shen Xin. Chisenhale also works experimentally with writing and publications and later in 2022, will present the first UK institutional exhibition of writer and sculptor Rindon Johnson. 

 has been awarded the second Curatorial Fellowship at Chisenhale Gallery, which begins this autumn 2021. She follows the first successful Fellowship undertaken by Chisenhale Gallery’s inaugural Asymmetry Fellow
