SUMMER PROGRAMME II: 'ONE NIGHT STAND WITH LO TING'

Asymmetry, 102a Albion Drive, London E8 4LY
6-8PM, 07.07.2023

Artist-curator duo C&G Artpartment (Clara Cheung and Gum Cheng Yee Man) stage 'One night stand with Lo Ting' at Asymmetry HQ. In this cooking performance, C&G spotlight the mythical half-human half-fish hybrid creature Lo Ting (盧亭) that allegedly inhabited Lantau Island for more than 1500 years and is the ancestor of Hongkongers. By bringing in a lesser-known exhibition history of Hong Kong, such as 'Hong Kong Incarnated – Museum 97'(香港三世書 – 九七博物館 1997'), the artists divagate into foundation myths, oral histories, family memories, diasporic feelings, and an evolving cultural archive that belongs to the people. Inspired by artists Phoebe Wong and Lydia Ngai's work in the exhibition 'Hong Kong Incarnated,' C&G will cook and share with participants the famous fish dish 'Salty-fresh One Night Stand 鹹鮮一夜情' by Hong Kong’s boat people.
