THE STREAM AND ITS SOURCE II: READING GROUP

Asymmetry, 102a Albion Drive, London E8 4LY
6.30-8.30PM, 27.07.2023

We are pleased to host a reading group for the second event of The Stream and Its Source. Participants will discuss various textual and visual materials that will be included in the project's final publication, including works by Etel Adnan, Ingeborg Bachmann, Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, Anna Mendelssohn, Liu Xia, and Can Xue.

The Stream and Its Source is a publication project initiated by our Curatorial Fellow at Whitechapel Gallery, Eugene Yiu Nam Cheung. Taking as its starting point the ways in which artists explore the ruptures and continuities of war, and how one makes sense of displacement, exile, and the pursuit of liberation, this project examines and intertwines, centrally, select works by Vietnamese artist, filmmaker, and scholar Trinh T. Minh-ha with those of the late Austrian writer Ingeborg Bachmann. To assist the moving of these two artists and their bodies of work towards or 'around' one another, other artistic interlocutors working in moving image, prose, photography, and poetry will also be considered. Together, these works provide insight into how artists give form to the intrusions of war, and demonstrate, in turn, the indelible marks these leave on their public and private relationships.
