51 Personae is an independent art publishing project based in Shanghai, focused on marginalised voices across Asia and the Third World. Through multilingual books and guerrilla-style distribution, it explores publishing as an urgent artistic practice beyond commercial channels, collaborating with artists and collectives to reach unlikely readers worldwide.
Jordan, jordan Édition is an independent publisher dedicated to focusing on Indonesian artists, that explores photographic and other experimental mediums under a mission to initiate conversations around such issues, challenging social stigmas and channelling those who have been marginalized within Indonesia’s society.
Kayfa ta is a publishing initiative that uses the popular form of how-to manuals (how=kayfa, to=ta) to respond to some of today’s perceived needs; be they the development of skills, tools, thoughts, or sensibilities. These books situate themselves in the space between the technical and the reflective, the everyday and the speculative, the instructional and the intuitive, the factual and the fictional. Kayfa ta was founded in 2012 by Maha Maamoun and Ala Younis.
Mediabus is a publishing collective founded in 2007 by Kyungyong Lim and Jungyeon Ku. They mainly publish books and zines related to art and visual culture. In 2010, they established The Book Society as a space to distribute and introduce their own publications as well as books by colleagues and collaborators. Since then, they have continued publishing books by Korean artists and introducing them both locally and internationally. The Book Society also organises various lectures, book launches, and exhibitions.
Pamenar Press is an independent, cross-cultural, multilingual, experimental publisher, founded in September 2019 by Ghazal Mosadeq and based in the UK, Canada, and Iran. They run workshops and reading series in London, Tehran, and Toronto, and are currently developing a residency programme for writers and translators around the world. Their online magazine showcases experimental poetry by writers from a variety of linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Plant South Salesroom, formed in 2021 as an assemblage, focuses on plant humanities studies and community-based interactions. Ranging from creations, journeys, to mutual conversations, their practices subtly develop a mycelium network for grassroots, to provoke intimate responses towards the ambiguous territory of scientific knowledge and everyday experience.
Rabbits Road Press is a community Risograph print studio and publishing press founded and run by OOMK. The small-scale publishing press is based at Old Manor Park Library and provides printing and book binding services for artists and community groups in Newham and beyond.
Silver Press / Spiral House is an independent publisher founded in 2017. Beginning with landmark feminist texts, its publications include Your Silence Will Not Protect You by Audre Lorde, The Debutante and Other Stories by Leonora Carrington and Space Crone by Ursula K. Le Guin. In 2024, Silver Press launched Spiral House, an imprint dedicated to exploring art, poetry, transformation and ways of knowing in the book form and beyond through sound, exhibition, gathering and collaboration. Together, the imprints bring together writing that expands how we understand culture, politics, language, imagination and social and personal change. Recent publications include works by Toni Morrison, Anne Carson, Trinh T. Minh-ha and Shulamith Firestone.
Tilted Axis Press is an independent publisher of contemporary literature by the Global Majority, translated into or written in a variety of Englishes. Founded in 2015, their practice is an ongoing exploration into alternatives – to the hierarchisation of certain languages and forms of translation, and the monoculture of globalisation.
